Issam Abdallah tragically killed: In a tragic incident on Friday, a seasoned Reuters videographer, Issam Abdallah, lost his life in southern Lebanon during his reporting duties. Reuters expressed deep sorrow and promised to gather more information while extending support to Issam’s family and colleagues.

Two other Reuters journalists, Thaer Al-Sudani and Maher Nazeh, were injured and are currently receiving medical attention. This devastating event is a reminder of the risks journalists face while providing live coverage in conflict zones.

The distressing situation doesn’t end here. The ongoing conflict has also claimed the lives of six Palestinian journalists during the initial days of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza. The names of the fallen journalists include Saeed al-Taweel, Mohammed Subh, Hisham Alnwajha, Ibrahim Mohammad Lafi, Mohammad Jarghoun, and Mohammad el-Salhi.

In the wake of these tragic losses, Sherif Mansour of the Committee to Protect Journalists has passionately called on all involved parties to acknowledge that journalists are civilians and should never be targeted. This plea amplifies the urgent need to ensure the safety and protection of journalists reporting from conflict zones, emphasizing the importance of upholding their civilian status and safeguarding their lives.
