Mosque Explosion in Pakistan’s Peshawar: An explosion inside a mosque in Peshawar, Pakistan’s northwest city, caused at least 28 fatalities and 150 injuries on Monday. Many of those killed or injured were police officers who had gathered for midday prayers.

According to Peshawar’s police chief Ijaz Khan, the mosque was situated inside a complex that also housed the provincial police force’s headquarters and a counterterrorism division.

He added that there was a chance of a suicide bombing and that there were signs of explosives inside the mosque.

The building is situated in a heavily guarded section of the city. According to Sikandar Khan, a police official, there were at least 260 people inside. He continued, “A portion of the building had collapsed, and it is thought that several people were underneath it.
