On Sunday, September 3, The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) carried out its first orbit-raising maneuver. After the successful firing of Aditya L1, the new orbit attained 245 km (about 152.24 mi) x 22,459 km (about 13955.38 mi).

ISRO tweeted on Sunday that “the satellite is healthy and operating nominally”. The next maneuver to increase the orbit of the spacecraft is scheduled for September 5, 2023, around 3:00 pm.

On September 2, 2023, ISRO launched India’s first solar mission Aditya-L1 using a PSLV-C57 rocket to study the sun from Sriharikota and was placed into earth orbit of 235 km (about 146.02 mi) x 19,500 km (about 12116.74 mi) after an hour. According to ISRO, the spacecraft is going to move around the earth for few days and will raise its orbit and gain momentum before reaching on its journey to the langrage –1 point of the Earth-Sun system. The spacecraft is going to travel 1.5 million kilometers (about 932056.79 mi) to Lagrange point 1, going on a voyage of 125 days (around 4 months) towards the sun.

About Aditya L1
Aditya L1 spacecraft is designed for remote observations of the solar corona and in-situ observations of the solar wind at L1. This is the first Indian based spacecraft by which India is going to study about the sun and the solar winds.

The instruments of this spacecraft are made to observe the solar atmosphere and the local environment at L1 point. Furthermore, it will study the solar upper atmospheric dynamics, coronal heating, physics of the partially ionised plasma and physics of solar corona and its heating mechanism.

According to ISRO, Aditya L1 playloads are expected to provide the most important information to understand the problem of coronal heating, coronal mass ejection, pre-flare and flare activities and their characteristics, space weather as well as propagation of particles and fields.

“The Aditya L1 payloads are going to provide the important information to understand the problem of coronal heating, coronal mass ejection, pre-flare and flare activities and their characteristics, dynamics of space weather, propagation of particle and fields etc,” ISRO said.
