JMI does not intend to use the Common University Entrance Exam (CUET) to determine admission for all of its undergraduate and graduate programmes. It is expected that the university will stick to its own criteria for the admission for upcoming Session.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) introduced the CUET last year for Undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The JMI did not, however, implement the CUET for all of its undergraduate and graduate programmes. Although the university used the CUET to admit students to 10 undergraduate programmes last year, this year, the number is probably going to increase.

Najma Akhtar, vice chancellor at JMI, stated to PTI, “Similar to last year, we would use CUET to offer admission to a number of courses this year. Ten courses were offered last year, but there will now be more.” The university provides 72 master’s programmes and 62 undergraduate courses, according to the Jamia website.

The Academic Council has resolved that the University should implement the CUET for admissions to select UG programmes like previous year, a top source told PTI. The Executive Council, the university’s highest decision-making body, will be informed of the situation, the official said.

The UGC had declared in March of last year that all central universities would conduct undergraduate admissions using a common entrance test and not based on class 12 grades. Akhtar responded to the UGC’s directive requiring central institutions to use the CUET for admissions by saying, “The university will look into it.”
