Ravindra Jadeja: India’s all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been found accountable for breaking the ICC Code of Conduct. Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel was broken by Jadeja on February 9th, during the 46th over of Australia’s first innings, when he was observed applying a calming cream to his index finger. Regarding acting in a manner that is inconsistent with the rules of the game, this article is concerned.

Jadeja has received one demerit point for his conduct, which is his first offence in 24 months. The incident was caught on camera, without the on-field umpire’s consent removing something off from Mohammed Siraj’s palm and rubbing it on his left index finger. The medication was used to treat a finger swelling, according to the management of the India team.

Jadeja admitted the violation and agreed to Andy Pycroft’s suggested penalty from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, avoiding a formal hearing. The match referee was satisfied that the cream was only placed on the finger for medical purposes and wasn’t used to artificially alter the ball’s state, which would have violated Article 41.3 of the ICC playing standards – Unfair Play – The Match Ball – Altering its Condition.

The Match Referee may apply Level 1 sanctions, which carry a minimum punishment of an official reprimand, a maximum punishment of 50% of the player’s match money, and one or two demerit points. The accusation against Jadeja was made by the on-field umpires Nitin Menon, Richard Illingworth, third umpire Michael Gough, and fourth umpire KN Ananthapadmanabhan.

Ravindra Jadeja : Conclusion

Ravindra Jadeja’s breach of the ICC Code of Conduct should serve as a warning to all the players and staff to respect the spirit of the game and adhere to its laws. Despite being found guilty and receiving a Level 1 sentence, it is crucial to remember that the cream was administered for only medicinal needs and had no effect on the ball’s condition.
